There might be no better way to enjoy the natural beauty of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument than to get a 360-degree view of it from 8,500 feet in the air. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the world’s largest rotating tram, will fly you up in the air in a gently rotating tram as it traverses the southern side of the Coachella Valley.
In the summer, open the windows of your tram and gawk at park’s characteristic sharp granite crags, made bare by the heat. In the winter, admire the snow-covered peaks and trees.
It’s not just the tram ride that makes this trip worth it. At the summit, you’ll find two restaurants, a cocktail lounge, observation decks, a small natural history museum, two theaters showing State Park and tram construction videos, a gift shop, and over 50 miles of hiking trails.
Dine at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
Dining at 8,500 feet gets the respect it deserves at the national monument.
Listed on Architectural Digest’s list of Best Cliffside Restaurants, Peak’s Restaurant doesn’t have hot dogs, popcorn and vending machine-quality espresso on the menu; this menu is full of dishes made with fresh vegetables and greens from the Coachella Valley, dry aged meats, fresh seafood and pastas. Reservations are recommended here.
Pines Cafe is a cafeteria-style eatery offering pizza, sandwiches, salads, soups and more. You can purchase a Ride ‘n’ Dinner combination that pairs your Palm Springs Aerial Tramway ticket with your evening meal price. Prices for the combination ticket are $36.00 for adults and seniors and $23.50 children ages 3-10.
The Lookout Lounge offers highbrow cocktails to top off your evening.
Enjoy the more than 50 miles of trails with guided nature walks. The 40-minute walks are completely free.
You can purchase tickets 24 hours in advance and up to six weeks in advance on the tram’s website. You also buy tickets when you arrive.
A ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway takes 10 minutes each way, and the trams arrive in the parking lot every 30 minutes on the hour.
